Captive Audiences

Imagine your visitors in two groups: 1) those that enthusiastically attend programs and read signs, and 2) all the rest. Which group is bigger? Sometimes your only window to reach the second group is when they don’t have a choice - they’re a captive audience. And I believe they’re often the audiences that most need our messages.

Examples of Captive Audience Interpretation

  • Professionally designed and framed flyers in elevators and bathrooms.

  • Engaging audio messaging while visitors wait on phone holds.

  • Exhibit panels and informal conversations while visitors wait in lines.

  • Interpretive decorations in cabins or facilities. (Different from interpretive signs, think beautifully framed historic park blueprints or Audubon Birds of America.)

  • Audio interviews or podcast episodes while visitors drive to your site.
