Bradley’s Seven Principles of Roving Interpretation

“Roving interpretation is an audience-driven form of two-way interpretation that results in personalized, informal conversations designed to pique visitor interest in the resources.” (D. Bradley, 2019)

The following best practices were developed by Danielle Bradley Okay, an Interpretive Specialist serving Northeast Texas State Parks.

  1. Roving interpretation is organized and planned in advance. 

  2. Roving should be scheduled.

  3. The benefits of roving interpretation extend beyond the visitor. 

  4. Roving interpretation reaches new audiences.

  5. The more you know the location, the better the discoveries.

  6. Plan for the less-obvious curiosities of the visitor.

  7. Continually assess your audience
